Closed for Private Party I

Sorry everyone but Where We Are Blog is currently closed this week. It’s party planning central here at headquarters! Catch you next week for more on the completion of the half bath, staircase railing, how the Housewarming went, and much more!

Checking the To Do List

Seasonal Sweet Tooth

I’m a sucker for sweets. I don’t think I’ve met a dessert I didn’t like. And especially around the holidays, it seems like bakers get pretty creative. I like to have a variety of favorites and crowd-pleasers for a party but why not have one or two show stoppers? These decadent desserts are surprisingly simple but look spectacular!

Desserts

clockwise from top left

  1. These Dessert Shots layer mousse with raspberry sauce for a holiday swirl.
  2. Peppermint Sandwich Cookies require just three ingredients and a lot of self control.
  3. These mini Santa Brownie Bites could be made with grocery store brownie bites. Just add a dollop of frosting and a ripe strawberry.
  4. Dunkin Donuts Coconut Munchkins become Snow Balls when displayed on a lovely platter.
  5. No need to make perfect sugar cookies! A couple misshapen cookies, some frosting and a marshmallow and you have Melted Snowmen Cookies!
  6. This blogger just bought some White Fudge Oreos and piped some simple royal icing snowflakes directly onto the cookies!

Not as Think as You Drunk I Am

I’ve never been a fan of a full bar for a party. I understand people enjoy their mixed drinks but I’m not about to play bartender all night or have a crazy guest taking shots of Patron for the duration of the party. Instead, I like to offer beer and wine and have just one signature cocktail.

It can be fun and colorful, or go with your theme, or have a silly name like the Where We Are Blog-a-rita! At our fall wedding we had an apple cider martini as a nod to our getting engaged in an apple orchard. And at our housewarming, my cousin Maria will be whipping up her famous Apple Pie in a Glass.

Here are some fabulous holiday themed cocktails for your upcoming parties… cheers!

Holiday Cocktails

  1. Rom Pa Pom Pom mixes POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice with lime juice, seltzer water, honey, and cranberry vodka for a refreshing blend.
  2. A Partridge in a Pear Tree blends pear liqueur with Champagne. So tasty you’ll want to sip it for all twelve days of Christmas!
  3. Frost Bite will warm you up with 1 part tequila, 1 part cream, and 1 part creme de cacoa.
  4. Too many Reindeer ‘Ritas and your nose would turn red too! This one is a blend of tequila, lime juice, pineapple juice, blueberry juice, and ice.
  5. The Food Network’s Sandra Lee makes this Creamy Candy Cane Cocktail with vanilla rum, white chocolate liqueur, peppermint schnapps, and a candy cane garnish of course!
