FAQ

WHY DO YOU BLOG?

Selfishly, I blog to keep a record of this very special time in my life. When I wrote my first blog (read it here) I had hardly any followers and mostly wrote for fun. Now when I read those posts, I am transported back to that time in my life in my small Connecticut apartment, working in a cubicle, and cooking for the man who would eventually become my husband. It means so much to me to have that time documented.

And unselfishly, I blog to show my family and friends all over the country what I’m up to! It’s a real treat to see this blog viewed by strangers too in so many countries by so many different people all connected by this small town home renovation and life with family.

WHAT WILL YOU BLOG ABOUT WHEN YOUR HOUSE IS COMPLETED?

Do you own a home? It’s never completed! There will be plenty of projects and updates I’ll share. And along the way, I hope to branch out and share general lifestyle posts about recipes, entertaining, organizing, etc.

WHERE IS YOUR HOME?

Our house is located in Winthrop, Massachusetts. It’s a small town just north of Boston. It’s a beautiful seaside town with less than a square mile of land.

ARE ALL YOUR PHOTOS ORIGINALS?

Unless otherwise sourced or linked to credit, all photos and images are created solely for Where We Are Blog.

HEY! WHY WAS MY COMMENT DELETED?

    • Thank you Katrina! We have a fantastic outlet for building supplies here on the north shore of Massachusetts called Peabody Building Supplies. They sell discount doors, moldings, trim, and sometimes have pallets of flooring. We were lucky enough to find 2 pallets of Brazilian Cherry there. I’m sure most states have similar stores if you’re not local.

      Thanks for reading!

Can you please tell me the brand and color of the paint you used in your foyer and staircase wall? It looks like a Greige, but not certain. It lends itself to a lot of situations and I like it a lot

Can you tell me what wall colors you used throughout the house? Also, what color are your floors and stairs? Oh, and, how do you like the butcher block counters? I have to decide on a counter for our soft white shaker cabinets and am torn. I can’t make up my mind to safe my life. I have to decide soon because people are starting to think I’m a weirdo for taking so long. I like the look of some marble look-a-likes as well as a honed dark gray, charcoal color but I’m also curious about butcher block. Hmmm. Too many decisions. Thank you much.
PS – Want to come to NY and pick things for my house ; )

    • Hi Christina, Thanks for reading. We used Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter throughout the first floor including the mudroom. The floors are Brazilian Cherry wood with a Jacobean stain on them. The stairs are oak with the same stain. We are so happy with our paint and stain choices!

I love our butcherblock countertops but they are definitely not super durable. I do most of my cooking prep on a big cutting board that’s always on the counter. You have to be cognizant of hot things, water sitting on them, and dings and dents. I sand little marks out and apply mineral oil monthly. I don’t regret the choice because I love the look but I know it’s more work than it should be and more work than most people would be willing to do.

      Good luck with your house!
